2016—Now About the Practice

The studio is built around a small team of professionals with diverse skills and a track record of working across scales and across disciples. Staying small and agile enables the office to focus on work that it cares about and ensures that all members of the studio are close to the project, understand its context and are able to craft a unique and enduring response. Openwork operates in four modes: as a landscape architectural consultancy providing design and documentation of public places; as an urban design studio providing input to plans and policies that will enable future public places; as a research lab, aligned with RMIT University’s School of Architecture and Urban Design exploring counter-factual futures for the city and as a speculative office, investing consulting profits into undertaking the types of projects that no one has yet asked us to do. Through these various modes of practice, our ambition is to be urban citizens—active and agitating for public exchange.
